Why do I have to pay a TV License?

Referring to the example you gave - if you have a coffee maker, you don't have to make coffee in it, you don't even have to have it plugged in - there is a fee for having it - and for the fact that you can use it to make coffee.

It doesn't matter that you don't watch any of the state TVP channels - you have a TV set, you have to pay the subscription fee.

All in all, it's a bit like with a telephone subscription - even if you don't call anywhere, don't send SMS, don't use the Internet (and don't answer calls, SMS), you still pay it. It's just that it's governed by the contract between you and the company, which you can change. And you don't pay for just having a smartphone.

It's probably best to call the "TV license" a tax. And as there is a tax on, for example, a dog, so it is on radio and TV. Such a country, such a climate ;-)

The RTV subscription is intended to finance public media that are to create and transmit content for every citizen of the country. Just because most people prefer to watch singing or cooking shows doesn't mean everyone is interested in it. The public mission is to create niche programs about art and culture that are not popular nowadays. For example, Program 2 of Polish Radio broadcasting classical music would probably have problems with staying on the market if it were to be financed in a commercial way. It's a bit like saying that tax money should not go to the reconstruction of monuments, because I do not visit monuments, or to the education of children because I have no children. Of course, the fact that this money is not spent, probably for its intended purpose, is another matter. A subscription fee for simply owning a receiver applies in many countries.

In Germany, a TV radio subscription is obligatory and no one even checks whether there are reception devices at a given address. There are penalties for not paying. In addition, this subscription also includes listening to the radio in the car.

I have cancelled my TV license  long time ago instead i subscribe on Wi-Fi then i can listen to whatever i want.

Then bought HD just for the TV to play well.  Once off payment on HD. No DSTV nothing.

A TV set is a monitor with a suitable decoder to receive free terrestrial television programs. Currently, the decoder enabling the reception of terrestrial programs is a DVB-T2 HEVC decoder. If your "television" does not have such a decoder, it is now simply a monitor, not a television receiver. Think about what that means to you.

The purpose of paying a TV license fee is to ensure the financing of public television and radio, which allows for maintaining a high level of quality of programs and keeping them independent of advertiser or government influence. Thanks to this, we have access to many TV channels and radio stations that provide us not only with entertainment, but also with information and education. It is worth noting that the subscription is not only a fee for receiving public channels, but also finances the creation of social and cultural programs, such as broadcasts of sports events or festivals, or providing access to programs for the deaf or visually impaired.
