Gold in Paris!

Finally, we have waited for some gold medal at the Olympics. Why is it that such a large country with such a big population, considering itself exceptional (at least that's the impression I get when I listen to various opinions on the internet), is unable to train more athletes at the highest world level? Is it the fault of society? The state? The training system? After all, we have plenty of money and high-quality coaches. Can't this somehow be turned into more successes? I think that if there were a better minister of sport who would think about the long-term development of our athletes and the training system, we would have much better results at the world level in every field.

Of course, this wouldn't happen overnight, but after a few years, we could probably see some significant results. Small countries like the Netherlands, Hungary, or Romania somehow manage to win more medals than we do. And this does not stem from having more money because Romania and Hungary are not actually wealthier than us.

Is there anyone who can logically explain this to me?
