Millions of Poles unable to serve in the military?
Some of the most frequently asked questions to CYTADELA experts concern military conscription and preparatory training calls. However, it turns out that millions of Poles, contrary to the information displayed in military booklets (category A), may be unfit for military service.
Since the early 1990s, rapid demographic changes have been taking place in Poland, resulting in the aging of society. In 1990, the median age in Poland was 32 years, while in 2021 it increased to 42 years.
An analysis from defence24.pl shows that a significant portion of the Polish population suffers from long-term health problems. In 2019:
- 26.1% of the population aged 15-29 had long-term health problems;
- 40.8% of the population aged 30-49 had long-term health problems;
- 75.9% of the population aged 50-69 had long-term health problems.
This means that:
- out of 4.2 million Poles aged 20-29, 1.1 million may be unfit for military service;
- out of 11.7 million Poles aged 30-49, 4.7 million may be unfit for military service;
- out of 2.3 million Poles aged 50-54, 1.7 million may be unfit for military service.
