Penalties for overloading vehicles.
It is not a secret that a considerable part of delivery vehicles on our roads are overloaded. What are the dangers associated with vehicle overloading and how to prevent it?
Overloading of vehicles not only costs society millions of zlotys annually due to damages to roads and related infrastructure, but can also cost a transport company a lot of money. From January 1, the fine for exceeding the permissible total weight can be up to 3,000 PLN (until recently, such an offense was punished with fines of up to a maximum of 500 PLN, these low rates were often included in the risk and did not discourage carriers from overloading their vehicles). Additionally, the legislator plans to punish the driver of an overloaded vehicle by imposing up to 15 penalty points on them. This penalty, unlike the fine, will affect the driver directly, not the company, which will lead to their resistance to driving an overloaded vehicle. Overloading a vehicle means not only fines, but also vehicle operating costs. When a delivery van or truck is overloaded, the engine, tires, brakes, and suspension are subjected to greater loads than they were designed for.
The cheapest and most economical solution for weighing vehicles (especially for small companies with a small fleet of delivery vehicles) are **portable weighing pads, which are also used by ITD.** One of the main advantages of the pads is their size, they are small enough to be packed and stored inside the vehicle, which is an ideal solution if delivery vehicles stop, collect, and deliver goods multiple times a day. They can also be easily stored in a warehouse, ready for use at any time.
You can choose a system of two, four, or a greater number of pads. A set of two pads is sufficient for weighing axles, where you can add up the masses of all axles to obtain the total weight of the vehicle. The pads can be stored in the vehicle and used wherever necessary (on flat, hard surfaces) where the driver needs to weigh the vehicle. Many models are wireless and battery-operated, which is very useful when traveling. High-quality portable weighing pads, such as the WWS Dini Argeo set, have a capacity of 30,000 kg, which is an ideal solution for fleets of delivery vehicles and small trucks. It is worth noting that these are exactly the same scales used by the Road Transport Inspection.
Portable weighing pads are a very cost-effective solution for smaller companies. However, in larger enterprises that use large trucks, it is worth considering installing a stationary weighbridge.
