74th anniversary of the German invasion of Poland.
On the morning of September 1, 1939, without declaring war, German forces attacked Poland. The attack was carried out along the entire length of the Polish-German border, as well as from the territory of Moravia and Slovakia, putting our country in a strategically unfavorable position. President of the Republic of Poland Ignacy Mościcki issued a proclamation in which, after stating the unprovoked aggression of Germany against Poland, he called on the nation to defend the country's independence. The aim of the "Fall Weiss" plan was to encircle and destroy the Polish Army west of the Vistula River no later than the fourteenth day after the Wehrmacht's attack. However, due to the strong resistance of the Polish Army, the objectives of the OKH plan were not achieved. The symbol of Germany's attack on Poland became the assault on the Polish military depot at Westerplatte, which began at 4:45 am with shots fired by the battleship "Schleswig-Holstein," which had entered the port of Gdańsk as a courtesy visit. Westerplatte surrendered on September 7th. During this time, it was an example of heroism and encouraged further resistance by defenders of the Fatherland.
