Polish roads in 1930.
Polish automotive industry was born with regaining independence. During the interwar period, our country entered with a large fleet of vehicles originating from liquidated military units of the German and Austrian armies. The next group of cars appearing on Polish roads were vehicles imported from civilian sources, mainly Fiats and extremely durable Fords. In 1926, the first Polish car produced on a larger scale - CWS T1 - appeared. Unfortunately, in 1931, native production was ended. The reason was the start of assembly of an Italian car under the name of Polski Fiat 508. In 1930, in the 31-million population of Poland, there were registered 43,319 mechanical vehicles, including 18,873 passenger cars, 4,048 buses, and 6,738 trucks. Pre-war Polish automotive thought had enormous potential, which was interrupted by the war and limited by the post-war political situation. Will we ever create our own modern car again?
