Enigma - a short but as complete as possible history.

The first basic remark is that there were many versions of Enigma. Over time, they became increasingly complex and more difficult to break. 1928 - the beginning of the use of Enigma in the German army and the interest of the Poles in the German cipher. 1929 - the Poles photographed a civilian version of Enigma. 1929 - 1939 - the Poles break versions of Enigma used by the army and air forces. 1931-1939 - French intelligence provides the Poles with crucial data on Enigma. 1939 - cooperation established with the British and the transfer to them and the French of Enigma copies made by the Poles. until April 1940 - the Poles decipher successive versions of Enigma. April 1940 - the British independently decrypt the Enigma cipher. May 9, 1941 - interception of a submarine with the Enigma machine and cipher book. And that was the highest version of Enigma, it was only broken after obtaining the cipher book. As can be seen - it is not the case that the Poles independently broke Enigma. They were leading in breaking it before the war. Then the British took over the lead. But no one would have broken all versions of Enigma without the help of others.
