New movie about Silk Road darknet market will be released in february

The producers of the film about Silk Road, the black market in Darknet, announce its premiere in February next year. The main theme of the film will be the story of Ross Ulbricht, who founded Silk Road and the events leading to his arrest.

According to Deadline, the company Lionsgate, which acquired the rights to the film "Silk Road", intends to make it available in cinemas and websites on February 19, 2020. The plot is largely based on an article that appeared in 2014 in Rolling Stone magazine. The material entitled "Dead end on Silk Road" described in detail the events related to the market activity and its creator.

The role of Ross Ulbricht will be played by Nick Robinson, a 25-year-old American actor known from the film Jurrasic World. Ulbricht is currently 36 years old and is serving a double life sentence for his activities. The harsh sentence is the result of a court decision that found him guilty in money laundering, hacking attacks and drug trafficking.

It is not the first time that the story of Ulbricht has become an object of interest for mainstream media. Last month the CBS television station aired a documentary about the liquidation of the darknet market Silk Road. The film included an interview with Ulbricht's former partner. The premiere of "Silk Road" was originally scheduled for the Tribeca Film Festival in April this year. However, the event was cancelled due to a pandemic.

The founder of Silk Road was arrested by the FBI in 2013 and will spend the rest of his life in prison without parole. Ulbricht from behind bars in Tucson runs a blog on the Medium platform, where he publishes analyses on the BTC market. It is not the only announced movie devoted to crimes directly or indirectly related to cryptocurrencies. A movie about the One Coin financial pyramid is also announced, in which one of the roles will be played by Kate Winslet.
