Global warming - facts and myths.
Global warming is taking place.
The average temperature on Earth has increased by 1.09 degrees Celsius in the last 100 years.
In Poland, it is even more noticeable because the average temperature has increased by 2 degrees C over the last 50 years and now it is 9 degrees C.
It's a question of measurements - not interpretation.
But even "folk lore" should note it.
Probably everyone over 30 years old remembers that once winters in Poland were much longer, there was much more snow and it was colder. And the summers were not so hot.
The mechanism of global warming is not entirely clear. These are very complicated matters, but there is a correlation with the development of industry and the most justified thesis is that it is the result of human activity.
But there is also the other side of the coin.
Cold countries can benefit from global warming.
And probably Poland belongs to the countries that have already benefited from global warming.
Yes, we no longer have to incur such high heating costs as we would incur in the old winters. Our infrastructure is not damaged to such an extent by frost. The economic activity of Poles does not die down today to such an extent as it used to in winter.
According to research: there is an optimal temperature for human activity (if you take GDP as its measure). This is a temperature of 12-15 degrees Celsius.
In Poland, it is still lower on average.
Once, Poles were threatened with the fact that people in Poland would die from the heat. In fact, I think I was one of the first to point out that raising the average temperature by 2-4 degrees Celsius is beneficial for Poland.
Then the supporters of the fight against global warming changed their arguments. Suddenly, it turned out that the volatility of the weather and even the cooling of Poland due to changes in ocean currents are a threat.
Only that for now the data say that due to global warming - the temperature in Poland is rising.
I am not saying that the temperature in Poland will not drop - it is possible. Just like hurricanes and whirlwinds are possible.
Nevertheless, let us know moderation. The damage caused in Poland as a result of violent weather phenomena is still much smaller from the point of view of people than the changes caused by the fight against global warming in the form of a ban on the use of internal combustion engines or the costs of thermomodernization of houses in Poland (estimated at approx. PLN 1 trillion).
It is impossible to justify that the costs of CO2 emissions by developed countries such as Germany should be borne by Poland. And this is how it looks like that underdeveloped countries will pay back the emission costs of countries that have made a fortune for decades - by emitting as much as possible.
For decades, rich countries have developed by emitting CO2 to the power. Today, they can make an energy transformation with this money. But poor countries cannot do that. They will pay the bill of the rich.
It's like having the rich man eat at a restaurant for a few years and then invite the poor man over for leftovers and leave him with the bill.
For this reason, outside Europe and the USA - these ideas are received quite coldly. Although global warming will primarily affect poor countries first – making them even poorer.
It is good for Poland that the fight against global warming has no chance of success. Europe is responsible for a relatively small proportion of global CO2 emissions. This can't happen.
It will be warmer in Poland. And that's good news.
Worse, we will incur senseless costs of fighting with our own well-being anyway.
