Not many people know that the Popeye character really existed

His real name was Frank "Rocky" Fiegel and he was born in Poland in 1868. He emigrated to the United States, where he joined the Navy in 1887.

When the creator of Popeye met him, he was a retired sailor. He had a reputation for always getting into fights, which is why he had a deformed eye.

His great physical strength in the brawls in which he participated was so evident that he became a local legend. He always smoked a pipe and therefore spoke only from one corner of his mouth. When he was with a group of small children, he would always tell stories from his youth, constantly boasting about his strength and claiming that it was spinach that made him so strong and invincible.
