Day without littering

Today, on May 11th, we celebrate World Day without Littering, which promotes proper waste segregation and environmentally friendly attitudes. Let's remember to segregate waste according to the adopted rules - this way they can gain a second life!

Day without Littering was created by youth from several countries at the "European Eco-Parliament of Youth", sponsored by PRO EUROPE (an organization uniting organizations operating within the Green Dot recovery system). In Poland, Day without Littering has been celebrated since 2007 on May 11th.

The chosen date of Day without Littering is not accidental. It was on May 11th, 2001 that the Sejm of the Republic of Poland adopted a package of laws regulating, among other things, the obligations of entrepreneurs in the field of packaging waste management, later amended by the Act of June 13, 2013 on packaging waste management. On that day, the Polish system of packaging waste management started operating in accordance with the guidelines of EU Directive 94/62.

Sort waste and help the environment

The waste we produce in our homes is called "municipal waste", which we first segregate into 4 fractions (yellow, blue, green, and brown containers), and those that are not selectively collected are residual waste (black container).

We segregate waste in containers or bags of specific colors:

  • BLUE - PAPER
  • GREEN - GLASS with the option to separate into clear glass - white and colored glass - green
  • YELLOW - METALS, PLASTICS and MULTI-MATERIAL PACKAGING WASTE
  • BROWN - BIODEGRADABLE WASTE
  • BLACK - residual waste left after segregation
