Academy of Mr. Kleks has been open since May 8th

Quickly quickly like a "cinematic hit". Welcome to a nostalgic journey to the 80s, but with a touch of modernity. Maciej Kawulski in his new adaptation of "Akademia pana Kleksa" decided to go all out, capturing the spirit of the past, while also trying to modernize it. And we have everything here: from the classic trilogy to his own, modern fairytale images, which charm, but also make it hard to avoid comparisons with giants like "Harry Potter" or "The Hobbit".

The film, full of magical lessons and creative ideas, looks like a huge, shimmering soap bubble, whose burst is inevitable. Fantastic costumes and scenography are cool, but it is not enough to completely erase the impression that we are watching a collection of well-known cinematic tropes. Stankiewicz as Mateusz the starling and Kot as Mr. Kleks try to save the show, adding a bit of magic and warmth to the film, although the whole thing is sometimes too chaotic.

Kawulski focuses on commerciality, as seen in blatant product placement and attempts at international reach, but his project, although ambitious, sometimes sounds false. Although the film celebrates creativity and fun, it also loses a lot, trying to chase after big productions without having their budget or possibilities. So even though he may have wanted to reinvent "Akademia...", it seems that Kawulski got a bit ahead of himself. Like with bubbles - colorful, big, and... unfortunately not lasting.
