Jerusalem from the time of Jesus

Hello dear Infographic enthusiasts! The infographic shows Jerusalem from the time of Jesus and ancient Palestine, where we can find places known from biblical events descriptions. The city of Jerusalem is a holy city for three monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Each of the followers of these religions will find important and sacred places in this city important to their religious tradition. Jews consider Jerusalem a holy city. During the times of King David and Solomon, it became the capital of the kingdom, serving as the religious and political center of Israel. David transferred the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, which was a holiness of the Chosen People. David's son, Solomon, expanded the city and built the Temple. The Hebrew name of Jerusalem is Yerushalaim, which means the City of Peace. Jerusalem is located in the geographical region called Judea. The Valley of Kidron is also called the Valley of Jehoshaphat. Biblical tradition has led to many people wanting to be buried on its slopes, and today there are large Jewish, Christian, and Muslim cemeteries located there. During the time of Jesus, pilgrims from various regions came to the Temple in Jerusalem to honor Jewish holidays (Passover, Feast of Booths, and Feast of Weeks) and offer sacrifices prescribed by the Law. The Old Testament prophets linked Jerusalem to many messianic promises. The Babylonian ruler Nebuchadnezzar invaded Judah and demolished the Temple in 587 BC and deported the elite Israelites to Babylon. After returning from Babylonian captivity, the Second Temple was rebuilt, later expanded and beautified by King Herod the Great. During the Jewish-Roman war, the temple was destroyed in 70 AD and was never rebuilt. The western wall, known as the Wailing Wall, remains as a testimony, where Judaism followers gather day and night to pray. Today, the Old City of Jerusalem is divided into four sections: Muslim, Jewish, Armenian, and Christian. For Christians, Jerusalem is a special place because Jesus Christ lived in this city and the mystery of his passion, death, and resurrection took place in this city. In this city, the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus' disciples. "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another" (Jn 13:31-35). Happy, peaceful, and family Easter holidays! Source: kul.pl
