Fear as a brake on motivation

Motivation and fear are two key components of human behavior, which are often interconnected, although in different contexts they may have different influences. Fear often acts as a brake on motivation. A person experiencing strong fear may be inhibited in pursuing goals or taking action because they fear failure, rejection, or other negative consequences. In such situations, fear can limit motivation and cause the person to avoid risk or change. How does this work? Fear of action is actually fear of emotions. We are not afraid of specific events, but of the feelings associated with them. When we can deal with our emotions, fear diminishes. It is about being confident in dealing with the emotional consequences of challenges, whatever they may be. To do this, we need to increase awareness of our emotions and be able to control them and act despite their presence. We can also control fear itself, meaning tame it, act despite it, or decrease it. It is not possible to completely eliminate it because it is built into our nature. For centuries, it has helped ensure our safety by triggering the fight or flight response.
