Crewed expeditions to the Moon.

Welcome dear Infographic enthusiasts :)

Almost 55 years ago, when Neil Armstrong set foot on the surface of the Moon, an era of fulfilling humanity's space dreams ended. Dreams that have accompanied mankind since ancient times and since then have entered a new stage of challenges.

In May 1961, a month after the success of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the president of the USA, proposed to Congress that within a decade, a man finally landed on the previously unattainable Moon.

"I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth."

The Apollo manned missions brought great scientific success and opened a new chapter in space exploration. The essence of their success is well captured by Neil Armstrong's famous quote after stepping onto the lunar surface: "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."

Today, the Apollo missions sometimes seem unbelievable. After all, the astronauts flew to the Moon with incredibly weak equipment compared to today's capabilities. The on-board computer of Apollo 11 had computing power only slightly greater than that of today's calculators. However, it managed to transport the astronauts to the Moon and safely bring them back to Earth, along with rocky samples.

In May 2019, NASA announced that the next manned Moon flight program would be called "Artemis" and would be a continuation of the Apollo program. Poland has already participated in the Artemis I mission, which was an unmanned mission that involved orbiting the SLS rocket and the Orion spacecraft around the Moon.

The next stage of the mission, planned for 2025 - Artemis II - will involve manned orbiting of the Moon. Physically, a human will stand on the Earth's satellite as part of the Artemis III mission, planned for 2028.

I strongly encourage you to check out the infographic and remind yourself of interesting knowledge from your youth :)

Have a nice Sunday :)
