During WWII the Polish broke the serced code called an Enigma machine

Germans used it for for encryption and decryption of their secret war plans and Polish mathematicians broke the secret code. They gave this information to the British who used it to beat the Germans.

Later after the war the English have made a couple of films about their clever code breakers, leaving out the part that it was the Polish, not the English who initially broke the secret German codes.
