You can edit posts, but for some reason as soon as someone adds a comment, the ability to edit disappears.

The idea is that content can be edited until it interacts with other users. For example, if someone adds a comment - the ability to edit disappears to avoid a situation where a user gains approval for the content and then edits its substantive value :).
