The Death of JFK
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was killed on November 22, 1963, as his motorcade wound past Dealey Plaza en route to a planned political luncheon with Texas businessmen at the Dallas Trade Mart. In 1964, the Warren Commission – the official government inquiry into the assassination – concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone, had fired three shots which killed the 46-year-old president and wounded Texas Governor John Connally.
There have been numerous alternative theories regarding Kennedy's death. Many Americans found it difficult to believe that the president could perish at the hands of a lone individual who had outwitted the entire US security apparatus. Additionally, significant errors during the investigation were repeatedly highlighted. Research conducted between 1966 and 2004 indicated that up to 80% of Americans suspected an organized attack and subsequent cover-up of evidence.
