Ethereum 2.0 possible in July

A full network upgrade to Ethereum 2.0 may take up to several years, but the first test phase may see the light of day as early as July this year, according to the BitMex research report.

Sharding is a proposed solution to the scaling problem, but it creates additional dilemmas in itself. Existing smart contracts will not be able to go directly to the new chains, so they will have to be gently rebuilt for the new ecosystem.
